• What is a proficiency scale?

  • A proficiency scale is a valuable tool used to score and articulate the most accurate and current level of a student's performance in a learning progression for a measurement topic using learning targets for one or more of the prioritized standards in the course. Proficiency scale learning targets provide clear next steps for students to set goals and progress as leaders of their own learning. See the table for descriptions of the score levels.

  • Note: Whole point scores indicate a student has mastered all of the learning targets at that level, and half-point scores indicate the student has also made progress toward mastering the learning targets at the next level, but has not yet mastered all elements at the next level.  Half-point scores should only be assigned on pre-, mid-, and post-assessments.
