What educational options are available for students?
There are 3 options available for students in grades K - 6 and another 3 options available for grades 7 - 12. K - 6 parents can choose traditional, hybrid, or virtual. Parents of 7 - 12 students can choose between A & B on-site rotational, hybrid, or virtual.

Will the Oxford City Schools reopening/re-start plan be the same for the entire school year?
Not necessarily, Oxford City School district will evaluate all portions of the re-start plan after the first 6 weeks of school. After this data collection time period, the plan may be modified accordingly. Data collection will include parent feedback, attendance, safety, and health status data. Should changes be needed, parents will be notified.

What is a "rotational model?"
OMS and OHS students will attend in person on Monday and Wednesday (A) or Tuesday and Thursday (B) and every other Friday. On days students do not attend, teachers will have assignments released through our learning management system as well as virtual resources.

Will "on-site" instruction take place?
Yes, stuents will have the opportunity to attend classes on campus. However, the district will operate using alert stages. See Alert Stages documentation for further explanation.

Will a virtual option be available to students if they do not wish to attend classes on campus?
Yes, a full virtual option is available through our "Connections" virtual school. Students may also select a hybrid option which would include some virtual and some on-campus courses.

If my child has an IEP, will they still receive instructional services if participating in virtual school?
Yes, students having any type learning plan (IEP, IELP, 504, or GEP) will receive accommodations while participating in virtual learning.

Will my child be required to wear a mask to school everyday?
Facial coverings are required for students in grades 2nd-12th per the updated (July 29, 2020) order by the Alabama Governor. We encourage parents of students in grades PreK-1st grade to conduct their own research as it pertains to facial coverings and make the best decision for their child. See CDC and ADPH websites for guidance.

Will my child’s temperature be taken at the school daily?
No, Oxford City Schools encourages parents to conduct home screenings if seeing signs or symptoms. If a child has a fever or other symptoms, parents may contact their healthcare provider for medical advice.

Will schools host back to school orientations or open houses?
No, safety is a major priority and we feel that it would not be feasible to host events with large crowds within a school building and practice proper social distancing.

What about extracurricular activities like sports, band, choir and robotics?
Presently, Oxford City Schools plans to have all extracurricular activities. Spectator attendance will be addressed before competitions begin.

Will visitors be allowed in the schools?
Parents/Guardians or other visitors may come to the front office for business-related needs only. Visitors will not be able to eat lunch at the schools until further notice. Parent volunteers will also not be allowed at this time.

Will the school system shut down all schools if there are a lot of cases at one school?
No, Oxford City Schools has developed alert stages and stages will be based on each individual school. It is possible that one school may be in the yellow alert stage, while another may be orange. The alert stages will be posted on each school’s website and social media, as well as the district website.**See alert stages documentation for explanation.
