Mrs. Kaitlyn Melton

Subjects Taught: K-4 Music & Jacket Sing-Sations

Education: I graduated in May of 2019 with a Master of Music degree in Music Education from Kent State University. I graduated magna cum laude from Jacksonville State University with special honors in music in the fall of 2013. At Jacksonville State University, I received a Bachelor of Arts in Choral Musica Education. I am certified as highly qualified in choral music education for Pre-K-12th grades.

Experience: I have been teaching music at OES since August 2019. I previously taught music in the Pell City School System from January 2014-May 2019. I completed my undergraduate internship at OES in the fall of 2013.

Bio: I have been teaching music since January of 2014. My husband's name is Michael. He is also a music teacher, and is currently a band director at a high school. We have been married since June of 2015 and have one little girl, named Ellie! We also have a sweet dachshund name Moe. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking, painting, crocheting, crafting, and spending time with friends and family.

My music education philosophy: Music is an indispensable part of human life that impacts learning and enhances quality of life. Studies show that music has a positive effect on a person's mental, physical and emotional well-being. Here at Eden Elementary School and Iola Roberts Elementary School, we believe that every child has musical talent. Our goal is to make sure that every child succeeds in music, expresses themselves through music, discovers their own musical abilities and applies those abilities in the classroom and beyond. We strive to provide an educational program that is designed to teach the performing arts to children in a way that will help them develop creativity, positive self-esteem, aesthetic awareness, independence, an appreciation of diverse cultural heritages, a sense of responsibility, and valuable life skills.
